Diabetes-Friendly Green Smoothie Recipes Everyone Should Try

One of the biggest questions for those with diabetes is whether they should or shouldn’t drink green smoothies. The reason why these smoothies are so controversial is because of their sugar content. After all, those with the condition should strictly monitor their sugar intake.

But, that doesn’t mean that green smoothies are out of the question for them. In fact, people can consume them, but it is crucial that they pick the right ingredients. Also, before they implement any changes to their diet, we highly recommend that they consult with a doctor.

Have in mind that some results may vary. So, these diabetes-friendly green smoothie recipes may be beneficial for people and not for someone else. Nevertheless, always ask for medical advice before implementing these dietary changes.

Diabetes-Friendly Green Smoothie Recipes

When people decide to try green smoothies for the first time, they must make sure that they check their blood sugar level. These ingredients may be tolerable for some people but could prove problematic for others.

Since everyone’s body can react differently, it is important that people slowly implement this change. Here is how to make these tasty green smoothies.

1. Blueberry and Banana Rush

To make this smoothie is needed:

Ingredients:
  • One banana;
  • One cup of spinach;
  • One cup of kale;
  • Handful of blueberries;
  • Two tbsps. of soaked chia seeds.

It is important to use fruits in this recipe to balance the taste of all the greens. But, be careful not to use too many fruits since they can disguise the taste of the spinach.

2. Orange and Celery Mix

For this smoothie, the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • 1 big orange;
  • 2 cups of spinach;
  • 3 stalks celery;
  • 6-8 ounces of lemonade;
  • Five ice cubes;
  • One cucumber;
  • One cup of kale.

Some people’s blood sugar can tolerate the mix of berries and oranges. But, some with diabetes may find this mix a bit difficult to consume. So, make sure to find out which ingredients suit personally the most.

3. Banana and Greens Mix

For this smoothie, the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • One frozen banana;
  • 1 cup of any fruit;
  • One or two tablespoons of chia seeds;
  • One or two teaspoons of cinnamon;
  • Half an inch segment of ginger root;
  • 1-2 cups of greens (collard greens, chard, kale or spinach ).

For this recipe feel free to rotate pineapple, berries pomegranate, grapes, or mango. They will all give this smoothie a refreshing taste.

4. Pears and Leafy Greens Mix

For this smoothie,  the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • Four cups of any leafy greens;
  • Two tablespoons of soaked chia seeds;
  • An inch of ginger;
  • One pear;
  • Two stalks of celery;
  • Two cucumbers;
  • Half a cup of blueberries;
  • A quarter cup of pineapple;
  • Two tablespoons of flax seeds;
  • Ice and water.

Simply blend these ingredients well and enjoy.

5. Strawberry Spinach Smoothie

For this smoothie the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • 3 slices of cucumber;
  • Half a cup of blueberries;
  • Half a stalk of celery;
  • Handful of spinach;
  • One tablespoon of raw cacao;
  • One tablespoon of flax seeds;
  • One teaspoon of cinnamon;
  • Six ounces of unsweetened almond milk;
  • Three tablespoons of rolled oats;
  • Two frozen strawberries.

The ingredients in this recipe make around 8 to 10 ounces of this smoothie. Drink it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to keep the blood sugar stable.

6. Vegan Green Smoothie

For this smoothie the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • A cup of unsweetened coconut milk;
  • A teaspoon of chia seeds;
  • One serving of vegan protein powder;
  • Half a cup of frozen;
  • One kale;
  • One teaspoon of soaked goji berries;
  • Two handfuls of spinach;
  • One peeled orange.

Feel free to add as much or as little water preferred. The protein powder in the smoothies, supposedly, doesn’t affect the blood sugar levels. So, it can prove useful for keeping them stable.

7. Blueberries and Pumpkin Seeds Mix

For this smoothie, the following is needed:

Ingredients:
  • Two cups of spinach;
  • Half a cup of strawberries;
  • Half a cup of blueberries;
  • A scoop of sugar-free chocolate protein powder;
  • A teaspoon of ground cinnamon;
  • A tablespoon of ground flax seed;
  • Quarter cup of soaked chia seed;
  • A handful of pumpkin seeds.

Add as much or as little water as preferred. But, be careful with the ingredients. The more careful the less they will affect the blood sugar level.

8. Kale and Banana Smoothie

For this smoothie, is needed:

Ingredients:
  • Two cups of water;
  • An ounce of hemp seeds;
  • Two ounces of kale;
  • One large banana;
  • Two ounces of spinach.

If it is hot outside, feel free to add some ice. Drink this refreshing shake to boost energy for the entire day.
