7 Ways to Soothe Itchy and Dry Skin

Diabetes often comes with itchy skin and some skin problems. That is why it is important to take good care of our skin.

If we have this chronic condition we have pretty good chances of also having itchy and dry skin. Fortunately, there are multiple ways we can take care of our skin. Plus, we will decrease the chance of developing skin problems and dry skin. In the end, our skin will look smoother and healthier than ever.

Well, it is time for a new skincare regime! Here are some tips on how to take good care of the skin.

1. Wash the Skin Properly

If we wash the itchy skin with the wrong skincare product, the skin will become drier than ever. Even though we think we are keeping the skin clean, the truth is, we are making the problem worse. The products aggravate the problem.

In fact, skin care products contain a heavy amount of chemicals and perfumes. Therefore, we shouldn’t wash the skin with those products if we want to minimize itchiness.

2. Moisturize the Skin

We should purchase a moisturizer that suits our skin type. Whatever we pick, it should be right for our skin to relieve the itchiness. What makes moisturizers so great, is their ability to keep the skin hydrated.

Plus, it is gentle and immensely beneficial. As a result, it will calm the itchiness. However, it is important for those with diabetes who have itchy skin, to consult with a doctor before deciding on purchasing a certain moisturizer.

It is crucial to know if the chemicals will affect the medications a patient is taking. Lastly, whenever we feel as if our hands have dried out we could use a moisturizer.

3. Reduce the Stress

Stress can often affect itchiness. It can increase the itchiness level, so it is best to deal with stressful situations and practice relaxation. Also, try to meditate and let the mind relax, and get rid of all the stress.

Meditate for a few minutes every morning to stay relaxed during the entire day. Furthermore, we could create our own stress-relieving method. For example, we could listen to some calm music, take deep breaths, or practice yoga.

Whatever it is that makes us happy, we should do it.

4. Use Baking Soda

To calm the itching sensation, try to use this baking soda mixture. Many people say that it works, so why not give it a try? To make it, mix one cup of baking powder with half a cup of water. Mix everything well to get a smooth paste.

Apply the mixture to the skin and let it rest for about 15 minutes. After the time has passed, wash off the mixture with lukewarm water.

5. Oatmeal Mixture

Another great way to take care of our skin is to use this oatmeal mixture. It can soothe the itchiness and make the skin smooth. To make it, mix a cup of colloidal oatmeal with a quarter cup of water. Stir it well until it gets a proper paste.

Next, apply the mixture to the affected area and let it rest for about 15 minutes. After that, wash the skin with lukewarm water.

6. Use Cold Compress

A cold compress is always a good way to treat itchy skin. The cold packs create a temperature sensation that travels toward the brain, the same way the itching sensation does. Therefore, give this trick a try whenever the skin feels itchy.

Other than cold compress, we can always take cold showers. However, it is important for those with diabetes not to shower every day since they can’t control their glucose levels. As a result, it is better to stick with cold packs as a better solution.

7. Consult with a Doctor

If we want to know more about our skin condition or skin type, it is always a good idea to consult with our doctor. They will advise us on what moisturizer we should and shouldn’t use. Also, they can give some excellent advice about the skin products we are using.

Therefore, don’t be afraid to ask for a professional opinion.
