5 Rules We Can Break If We Have Diabetes

Once we get diagnosed with diabetes we’re instantly bombarded with diet plans and ways of regulating our system.

Even though all of that is good and important for us, there are definitely some things that are blown out of proportion and that are simply not true.

Our first advice for people is to never take any advice from those who don’t really know what they’re talking about. Nowadays it seems like everyone has an opinion on telling us what is good for us.

But what’s important for us is to do our own research and choose the diet plan that suits us best.

We Can  Break These 5 Rules

1. Never Eat Any Junk Food

It’s really important not to brand certain foods as forbidden. Even though some foods are not as healthy as kale, it doesn’t mean to ever even think of eating our favorite treat that maybe is not the most nutritious thing ever.

Think of the concept of moderation and work around it, instead of being constantly deprived. Maybe a smaller portion of some potato chips? We can divide the bag into very tiny portions and a good snack whenever we feel like it.

2. It’s All About the Calories

It is definitely good to count calories. But for sure it’s not the most important thing when it comes to eating healthily. It’s so important to know that not every calorie is built the same way.

It’s easy to understand this – just think of a hundred calories of apples in comparison to French fries. Always make sure to do research and know about the quality of food and with that, the quality of calories.

Counting calories can help us put our portions in order, but it doesn’t say anything about the quality of our meals.

3. All Fats Are Bad For Us

This is a very common misconception because people never think about the types of fatty foods and ingredients that we should actually use.

Of course, fatty foods make our cholesterol go up which strengthens the risk of developing heart disease, like saturated and trans fats. However, some fats can be of some kind of benefit to those struggling with diabetes.

For example, foods that are rich in Omega 3 are good for lowering LDL and improving our heart health. Always indulge in moderation because these foods are abundant in calories. You can consult experts like Mint Nutrition – personalized nutrition for a personalized meal plan.

4. No Breakfast Is Smart

Breakfast is a very important meal because it fuels up our body to make it ready for the upcoming day. Thanks to it we don’t feel the need to overeat during the day.

Also, since we’ve skipped so many hours without food between dinner and the last meal we had the day before, our body is not fueled up and it’s basically fasting itself.

That is why once we eat our body stores more of it and that’s the reason behind weight gain. This is why it’s important not to skip breakfast because it’s truly the most important meal of the day.

5. Juice Cleanses

Even though a smoothie from time to time is good, the idea behind only consuming liquids is not really the best. Plus the thought of juices being just filled with sugar is not really ideal either.

If we’re only eating vegetables and fruits we’re basically just missing out on fibers that are literally of crucial importance for our health. So if we’re ever considering a juice cleanse, we should make sure to do our research and put lots of thought into it.
