Cinnamon has countless uses, especially in spicing and cooking food. But, it can also be used to treat certain conditions. That is why many people are using it as a help for many health problems.

The type of cinnamon that can help treat many health conditions is cinnamon oil. According to research, this essential oil is rich in potent chemical substances that can help destroy the fungus and bacteria.

Moreover, it can even boost the immune system, brain functions, and overall health.

Most of the cinnamon oil on the market is manufactured from the bark of the cinnamon tree. This tree grows in tropical countries like India and Sri Lanka.

Depending on the quality of the oil, the price ranges from $3-$130 per bottle.

To know if we are using the best quality cinnamon oil, it is best to make our own. This way, we will also save some money.

Here is how we can make our own homemade cinnamon oil.

How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Oil

It is very simple to make cinnamon oil. In fact, we don’t need any special skills. What we need are the right tools and a few ingredients.

Method 1

To make our own cinnamon oil, we will need:

  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Olive oil
  • Glass jar

Stuff the glass jar with plenty of cinnamon sticks and pour the olive oil into the jar until all the sticks are completely covered.

Next, cover the jar with a lid and let it sit for about 3 weeks. Shake it every day to let it release the cinnamon oil.

After the three weeks have passed, strain the oil and remove the sticks.

Finally, transfer the oil to a different bottle and store it in a cool place.

Method 2

To make this cinnamon oil, we will need:

Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is warm enough, add the cinnamon and stir the mixture.

Let it simmer for 3 minutes. Let the mixture cool and strain the oil with a coffee filter. Finally, transfer the oil to a bottle and store it in a cool place for at least a month.

Method 3

We can use this method to make cinnamon-scented oil that can help us relax. To make this recipe, we will need:

  • 3 ounces of cinnamon extract
  • 3 ounces of propylene glycol

Add the two ingredients to a bottle and shake the bottle well. Next, set 1 and a half ounces of this mixture aside and dilute it with water.

This trick will help us soften up the powerful scent.

Note: Do not apply the raw scented oil directly on the skin. It is important that we dilute it first since it could cause some skin problems, especially on sensitive skin.

How to Use Cinnamon Oil

There are 3 ways we can use the oil: aromatically, topically, and internally. If we diffuse the cinnamon oil with a diffuser, we can inhale it by sniffing it.

Moreover, we can pour a few drops of it on the clothes or skin to give them a nice smell.

However, if we want to use it topically, it is best that we dilute it with a carrier oil, like coconut oil, for example in a 1:1 ratio.

The reason why cinnamon oil is best mixed with coconut oil is that the coconut can help improve skin immunity and keep it moisturized.

According to the FDA, cinnamon oil is safe to consume. However, we can only consume oil that is from a highly reputable brand.

Otherwise, it is best to avoid consuming it. Therefore, choose a cinnamon oil that is free of toxic chemicals, solvents, and filters.

Cinnamon Oil and Diabetes

Cinnamon oil can be useful as it helps reduce blood sugar levels and stimulate the effects on the pancreas.

Due to the cinnamaldehyde the cinnamon bark contains, it can reduce blood glucose and help keep the disease in check.

Therefore, we highly suggest using cinnamon essential oil. Simply add a drop of it to the food after it has been cooked. We can use it in salads as well.

This way, we can obtain all the benefits it can offer.

Cinnamon for Kidneys?

According to a study published in the Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, the Cinnamaldehyde found in cinnamon bark helps support the molecular function in the kidneys. Still, consult a doctor before considering using cinnamon oil as a treatment for kidney disorders.
