Warning Signs of Low Blood Sugar You Should Know

Low blood sugar also known by the name hypoglycemia usually occurs as a result of side effects of the drugs for diabetes.

The normal range of blood sugar is 70 – 100 mg or dL in a person without diabetes. Most people experience the symptoms and effects when their blood sugar levels are below 50 mg or dL.

The symptoms and severity of hypoglycemia, i.e., low blood sugar might vary from one individual to another.

A blood test might diagnose low blood sugar. Also, symptoms resolve when the blood sugar levels go back to their normal range. The medical term for low blood sugar is low blood glucose.

Symptoms of Low Blood Sugar

  • Feeling anxious
  • A fast heartbeat
  • Sweating. Usually on the back of the neck near the hairline
  • Blurred vision
  • Weakness, nervousness, and shakiness
  • A headache and dizziness
  • Slight nausea
  • Extreme hunger

Bear in mind that these symptoms might disappear once you eat some food abundant in sugar.

Symptoms of Moderate Low Blood Sugar

You should know that in case your blood glucose drops below 40 mg or dl your behavior might change.

  • Personality changes like crying or feeling angry
  • Being unable to concentrate
  • Irritability and confusion
  • Muscle twitching
  • Unsteadiness when walking or standing
  • Slurred speech

Symptoms of Low Blood Glucose at Night

In case of the blood glucose drops, while you are sleeping, your partner might notice that you are behaving differently or that you are sweating.

  • Sweating
  • Restlessness
  • Nightmares
  • Making unusual noises
  • Sleepwalking
  • Accidentally rolled out of bed
  • Attempting to get out of bed

In the morning you might wake up with a headache. This is a sign that your blood glucose was low during the entire night. In case you discover that you have the symptoms of low blood glucose on a regular basis, make sure to consult your doctor.

Schedule an appointment with your doctor, and talk to him or her about your symptoms.  Moreover, your doctor will do some simple tests and tell you how to deal with it, in case you have it.
