According to recent research, fat around the pancreas is more crucial in determining type 2 diabetes and its development.

This is in comparison to the overall body fat. Researchers from Newcastle University conducted this study. This specific study indicates that less than half tsp. might be enough to reverse type 2 diabetes.

And also to cause the development of type 2 diabetes. According to the professor of medicine and metabolism at this University, Roy Taylor, this study showed that there is surplus fat in the pancreas of individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Also that this surplus fat is not present in individuals with diabetes. If this amount of fat is not present that the pancreas might become capable of producing insulin normally. Also the control of sugar might return to normal.

More About The Study

Up to this point, it has been a mystery why the cells in the pancreas fail to make insulin. According to Roy Taylor by presenting that we might find fat in the pancreas which when removed leads to the proper function of the pancreas, we might witness diabetes in simple terms.

The trial is done on data from 27 participants, of which 18 with type 2 diabetes. These participants got compared to 9 people who were overweight and who did not have type 2 diabetes.

All participants previously done gastric bypass treatment and after the participants with diabetes did not take drugs.

Moreover, both groups lost 13 % of their original body mass. The researchers with the help of MRI scans examined where the fat got lost. The diabetic group had lost a lot of fat from the pancreas, but that was not the case with the non-diabetic group.

The Opinion of Professor Taylor

According to Roy Taylor losing around 0.6 g of fat from your pancreas might make a difference in people with type 2 diabetes. The diabetic group after losing this small amount of fat in the pancreas were actually able to reverse their diabetes.

This means that they could control the blood sugar levels with their naturally-produced insulin and no longer needed drugs. Also, Roy Taylor says that for people with diabetes this might be a strong motivation to lose weight.

And also for other researchers, it presents a clear target. Furthermore, Taylor notes that regardless of how you lose weight and your current body weight, the essential factor in reversing type 2 diabetes is eliminating that gram of fat.

The journal Diabetes Care published this research. Every new finding is significant for all people with diabetes. If you find this article useful, share it with your friends and family.
