Diabetes is a severe condition which if left untreated it might damage every tissue found in the body.

There is a big misconception that only adults might develop diabetes. But the truth is quite the opposite. As a matter of fact, diabetes is a common childhood disease.

Medical experts note that diabetes might happen in kids at any age this includes infants and toddlers. The International Diabetes Federation notes in a 2014 report that 497,000 children around the world have diabetes type 1.

Are you worried that your kind may be at risk? Read on to find out which are the warning signs of diabetes.

Warning Signs of Diabetes in Children

In general, the symptoms of type 2 and type 1 diabetes are similar. However, the symptoms of type 1 diabetes develop quickly in a few weeks. On the other hand, the symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop more slowly in comparison to type 1.

By knowing the warning signs, you can detect diabetes in its early stage and in that way stop long-term complications related to this condition.

Blurred Vision

Excess glucose in the small blood vessels of the eye might pull fluid from the leans and lead to difficulty when it comes to focusing.

Increased Urination and Thirst

The increased sugar level in your kid’s blood (not being able to move sugar into the cells) actually draws water from the tissues and leads to increased thirst.

Therefore, your kid might drink more in order to satisfy this thirst, and that in turn can cause your kid to urinate more frequently.

Fatigue

Since your kid’s body would not get the necessary energy, she or he might face extreme fatigue.

Intense Hunger

This is another effect of sugar not moving into the cells. The tissues found in the body of your kid starve, and that can cause increased hunger also known by the name hyperphagia.

Weight Loss

Even if your kid is eating as normal, the energy cannot reach the tissues, and she or he might lose weight. Other symptoms of type 1 diabetes in kids might include yeast infection in girls and unusual behavior.

While other symptoms of type 2 diabetes are areas of dark skin, slow healing of wounds, and frequent urination. In case you notice any of the symptoms above mentioned make sure to consult your doctor.

Your doctor will determine whether your kid has diabetes. Get informed and protect your children.
